Adobe, Symantec and 16 other donor partners open eligibility to nonprofits

At TechSoup Canada, we believe that nonprofit organizations in Canada (registered charities or not) are changing the world every day. Making access to donated software available to the nonprofit sector as a whole has been a goal of ours since our launch in 2009.

We’re excited to announce that we’ve now expanded the eligibility requirements for many of our programs that were previously unavailable to nonprofit organizations.

Programs now available for donation to nonprofit organizations (that are not registered charities) are:

These donors join Microsoft, Intuit, Sumac, Sage and GrantStation which have already been available to nonprofit organizations.

Please note that eligibility requirements are different for each of our donor partners, so while the expansion has now opened up eligibility to the nonprofit sector, your organization may or may not qualify for specific programs based on the criteria set out by our donors. To find out more about your eligibility for our donation programs, please visit http://www.techsoupcanada.ca/eligibility or log in to your account.

Are you so sure?

I am in complete agreement with Anonymous poster above. For years these vendors like Adobe and Symantec have offered products to non-profit that are not charities thru Tech Soup Canada. I do not mean to disrespect, but I do believe there is some confusion at the higher ranks at Tech Soup if they believe this is a new offering, at least with respecting to Adobe and Symantec.

Yes

Hi,

I'm sorry there is any confusion so I hope that this will clear things up. In the past, Canadian nonprofits that are not registered charities were only eligible for donations from Microsoft, Intuit, and more recently Sumac, Sage and GrantStation. These nonprofits were not eligible for any of our other donation programs including Symantec and Adobe.

As of January 31, 2013, Canadian nonprofits that are not registered charities are now potentially eligible for Adobe, Symantec and others (eligibility is based on your organization type as well as your activities and budget, as set out by each donor partner). So this is a significant change which will make these donations available to many more organizations in Canada.

Thanks,

Tierney, TechSoup Canada

Awesome!

This is SO great! Our non-profit is new to TechSoup and I must admit that I was a little dismayed that Adobe specifically was not ava to us. Thanks for this great announcement!

Confusing Message

I don't know about most of these vendors but I do know for a fact that Adobe and Symantec have been non-profit donors on Tech Soup for years now. So it's confusing because it seems like this message is stating this list of vendors is new on board and for sure two of them aren't.

Agreed

Yes, I think this should have been honestly worded.

Thank you for your feedback

Thank you for your feedback and our apologies if our wording came across as dishonest - that was certainly not our intention. I hope the distinction between nonprofits and charities is now clear.

Charities & nonprofits

Hi,

Great question. The distinction here is between charities and nonprofits. In Canada, you can register your organization as a nonprofit and then you have the option to additionally register yourself as a charity with Revenue Canada. One of the main differences is that charities can issue tax receipts for donations, whereas nonprofits (that are not charities) cannot.

In the past, Adobe, Symantec and the other 16 programs in this list were open to charities, but not nonprofits. Starting today, they are also available to nonprofits, which means they are open to a wider variety of organizations.

I hope this helps explain things! Please feel free to comment with any further questions.
