After Effects CS5.5 is a professional editor for producing motion graphics and visual effects for film, video, the web, and mobile devices.

64-Bit Only: After Effects CS5.5 requires a 64-bit operating system. Native 64-bit support gives After Effects access to more RAM than 32-bit systems do and increases efficiency in working on complex projects.

The After Effects 2D and 3D compositing environment accepts source materials ranging from still images or text to digitized film footage. Users can combine and manipulate source materials using hundreds of effects that stylize, distort, generate new elements, and more. For 3D compositing, users can keyframe x, y, and z position values separately and use a unified camera tool that works similarly to those in 3D modeling applications.

As a postproduction tool for video, After Effects gives users such options as color keying, motion tracking, color correction, and rotoscoping.

Tools, presets, templates, and plug-ins simplify the creation of audio and video effects and animations. Thirty-two-bit audio effects allow users to mix, equalize, echo, reverberate, modulate, and otherwise process audio. The new Roto Brush tool quickly and precisely isolates moving foreground elements from their backgrounds. After Effects also includes tools for creating text and vector graphics. Virtually any aspect of both user-created and imported elements can be animated.

After Effects supports importing and outputting in a variety of file formats, including QuickTime, FLV and SWF, AVI, MPEG-2, Windows Media, native Photoshop (PSD), Camera Raw, OpenEXR, ProEXR, Cineon, SGI, TIFF, TGA, Maya IFF, JPEG, PDF, MP3, WAV, AIFF, Panasonic P2, Sony XDCAM EX and HD, AVC-Intra 50 and 100, and multichannel DPX.
