Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition

Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition 12.1 protects networked laptops, desktops, and servers ("endpoints") against viruses, worms, Trojan horses, spyware, adware, rootkits, and threats not seen before ("zero-day attacks"). It consists of client software that runs on the endpoints and management software that runs on a server. This product is most suitable for organizations with between 5 and 100 endpoints.

Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition incorporates these technologies of the standard Endpoint Protection application:

• Antivirus and Antispyware: scans for both viruses and security risks
• Desktop Firewall: prevents unauthorized users from accessing the computers and the networks that connect to the Internet
• Intrusion Prevention: acts as the client's second layer of defense after the firewall
• Proactive Threat Scanning: analyzes the behavior of an application or process to determine if it exhibits characteristics of threats

The Small Business Edition does not include the Device Control or Application Control technologies, which are more useful to larger organizations.

The management software uses a single console to manage all the endpoints in an organization. Software and policy updates can be sent to all the organization's computers and servers, and their activities and statuses can be monitored centrally. Reports are available in web-based graphical form.

Rather than having several "agents" installed for the various functions, Endpoint Protection uses a single agent for all of them and thus uses less memory and disk space on each endpoint.

This donation includes a one-year subscription for use of the product, protection updates, and new product features.

New in Version 12.1: Version 12.1 adds support for Mac OS X endpoints. New Insight technology identifies rapidly mutating threats and also speeds up scans by examining only files at risk. Proactive threat scanning now uses SONAR 3 technology.

Same as Retail Version: This product is identical to the version sold through the Symantec website and includes the standard support, renewal, and upgrade options available with retail products.
