Description:

Backup Exec 2010 R3 provides continuous disk-based and traditional
tape-based data protection. It can protect a single server, multiple
servers, application servers like Exchange, UNIX and Linux servers, a
storage area network, desktop computers, notebook computers, and virtual
environments.

At the core of the Backup Exec system is the Backup Exec Media
Server, which controls the backup media (disk, network attached storage,
or tape). The media server's administration console provides an
intuitive interface and wizards to simplify installation, setup, backup,
recovery, media management, disaster preparation, cluster installation,
and agent configuration.

Administrators can define policies to manage backup jobs and
strategies. Policies contain job templates with attributes that define
how and when Backup Exec processes a job.

Agents and options extend platform and feature support for Backup
Exec environments. An unlimited number of these agents can be used
within a network, allowing for multiple instances of agents to protect
several servers. Click the following link for a list of all Backup
Exec agents and options
. The version of Backup Exec available
through TechSoup Canada includes all
of the available agents and options.

The R3 release includes enhanced wizards for installation and backups, a backup recommendation tool that identifies weaknesses in a backup strategy and recommends applicable agents, and support for more applications, databases, and platforms.

Other capabilities include the following:

  • Because continuous data protection backs up data residing on file servers as it changes, open files are protected, and incremental or differential backups are not needed.
  • Integration with Symantec ThreatCon, a measurement of global threat exposure, allows Backup Exec users to view security threat reports and set proactive backup to be triggered when global threats reach or exceed a specified level.
  • A web-based search engine enables end users to retrieve previous versions of files stored on the file server from the Internet without contacting IT.
  • Automated alerts can be sent via Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Notes, SMTP email, pager, printer, net send broadcast, or network monitoring applications.
  • Configurable 128-bit and 256-bit encryption is available when data is being backed up or stored on tape.

Only One License Needed: One Backup Exec license allows the Backup Exec Media Server to back up any number of devices. Only one license is required per organization.

NFR Version: The version of this product available through TechSoup Canada is the Not for Resale (NFR) version. NFR products cannot be upgraded to new releases. Organizations seeking new releases should request new donations through TechSoup Canada. In addition, NFR products do not include telephone assistance with product issues or add-ons; however, free online technical support is available at Symantec's website through its knowledge bases and discussion forums.

Choose Carefully: The administrative fee for this downloaded product is not refundable.

Installation File and License: When
your donation request has been approved, TechSoup Canada will send an

a certificate valid for a user license and the serial number needed for
downloading. Symantec estimates download times will range from about 4
hours for T1 connections to 47 1/2 hours for 128-Kbps connections.
