In order to stay up to date on what's going on in the world of technology - and nonprofit technology in particular - I follow quite a few blogs and twitter feeds. There's a lot of great content out there but if you don't have the time to stay on top of things (and even if you do!) it can be overwhelming. So, for those of you who have less time to do all this "listening" on nonprofit technology, I'm posting a blog each Friday with the top resources I found in the last week.
A short but important read for small organizations: it's all about processes. "Technology isn’t going to create a business process where one doesn’t exist. Focus first on process, not technology. Don’t worry about what you don’t know. You know your organization. You know your constituents. You know your co-workers and volunteers."
This infographic looks at the 5 largest US nonprofits by category and their social media impact.
"Greenpeace has used competition and public shaming to nudge consumer electronics makers to avoid using toxic materials, reduce their carbon footprint and recycle more. On Wednesday it’s releasing its latest version (the 17th) of its green gadget list that has Nokia yielding the top spot to Hewlett-Packard and Dell shooting up to the No. 2 spot from No. 10."
Who says retirement homes can't have as much fun as universities... and raise awareness while they're at it?
And a post for Remembrance Day:
With so much violence still going on in many parts of the world, how do you know if you're hearing the real story? Enter citizen journalism: getting news straight from the ground.
