CIRA Helping Nonprofits Build Their Brand Online

WebsitesCommunications

On April 13th, 2016, the Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) partnered with TechSoup Canada and the NetSquared network to help Canadian nonprofits, charities and libraries learn how they can take ownership and build their brand online (by choosing a .CA domain), and we’re excited to share the impact of this campaign with you!

Blog series for Nonprofits: Building your online brand and identity

Jason Faber, Product Marketing Manager at CIRA, and David Fowler, Director of Marketing and Communications at CIRA, created four learning resources to help nonprofits understand the importance of their online presence, and how to can get started -- all the while contributing to building a better online Canada.

Read by over 1,600 nonprofit professionals to date, CIRA’s blog series is a must-read for any nonprofit looking to build/re-design their website, and increase their reach online:

National Webinar: How to use Domain Names to Build and Protect Your Brand Online

Nonprofits in Canada frequently cater to a local community - so branding yourself as Canadian signals to your supporters that you are a legitimate and trustworthy organization.

To help nonprofits accomplish this, Jason Faber presented a free webinar on October 6, 2016, on how to choose the right domain name and brand your nonprofit online. Reaching over 145 nonprofit professionals, with 48 organizations joining live, the webinar discussed how to choose a domain name, how to get a website up and running, hosting email on your domain, and more.

Great [webinar] on domain names and how to embark on having a website.  I’ve worked on websites for years but only set one up from scratch for a little non-profit last year.  I could have used a lot of the info from this session.

NetSquared Community Meetups

TechSoup’s community of local #Tech4Good groups invited grassroots nonprofits to “reclaim their domain” with a series of events. Jason Faber toured Canada to share the inside scoop on how nonprofits can choose the right domain name and brand their nonprofit online. Events were held in Toronto, Ottawa, Vancouver, and Victoria and hands-on workshops that gave nonprofits the chance to get in-person help were held by NetSquared groups in Vancouver, Victoria, Ottawa, Montréal, and Peterborough.

CIRA’s support of Tech4Good Ottawa has enabled us to bring together people from the non-profit and tech worlds to increase the tech skills of local nonprofits, share experiences and begin to build a community of practice. CIRA’s support has also allowed us to demonstrate the value of a .CA domain name with many nonprofits.
